St Piran's Card

The 5th of March is St Piran's Day, when we celebrate the arrival of the patron saint of Cornwall. St Piran is said to have travelled over from Ireland tied to a mill stone, landing at Perran beach, where he built a small oratory. The legend credits him with the discovery of tin when he lit a fire on his black hearthstone, which was evidently a slab of tin-bearing ore. The heat caused smelting to take place and tin rose to the top in the form of a white cross (thus the image on the St Piran's flag).

Each year this is celebrated by a play, telling the story of his arrival, which is performed in the sand dunes at Perran Sands. This card captures the St Piran's parade at the Oratory, Perran Sands. The inside is blank and can be used as a St Piran's day card or to celebrate Cornishness at any time of the year.
