We Are Cornwall

It’s been a funny old month.  Christmas arrives very early in a calendar and card company. I suppose there’s a possibility that eventually that Christmassy feeling gets triggered as the temperatures rise.  It was certainly difficult to track down much in the way of snow when we needed it in July.

Much more to the point was our Summer Special selection of greetings cards, which sold well and this month features as a prize in a We Are Cornwall competition.  If you’ve not yet come across their website, can we commend it to you?  A collective of Cornish businesses under one on-line umbrella, all rather beautifully put together.  ‘We are’ delighted to be able to work with them.

We Are Cornwall is such an aptly chosen name.  It makes me feel like part of a tribe, or a worker in the hive, contributing to a greater whole.  Out and about doing deliveries, it is a pleasure to be meeting other small businesses, and rather humbling at times to be the recipients of their kindness and wisdom.  We were also delighted to be able to participate in the Cape Cornwall Arts & Crafts Exhibition back in August.  Over 17 days an army of volunteers pulled together a wonderful array of crafts and craftspeople, who donated a percentage of their sales to charity.  Run in aid of Cancer Research over a period now of some 50 years, this year’s show raised an astonishing £40,000.  Amazing what can be achieved when people work together (and, more to the point, are well directed!).

There is a constant buzz of activity in the opes and lanes of Cornwall – painters and potters, silversmiths and embroiderers, cheese and chutney makers.   And, One and All … We Are Cornwall!
