About us

A little about Evocative Cornwall and who we are.

The original inspiration for the company came from Sarah Lay.  In 2004 she produced the first Evocative Cornwall calendar in St Just near Land's End.

Evocative Cornwall is currently owned and run by us - Pen & Ewan McClymont.  Loyal customers of Sarah’s since the beginning - the calendars have been a constant feature on our kitchen wall - we were delighted to take over the business in January 2017.

It is the essence of Cornwall, which Sarah successfully captured in her work, that we have found to be so beguiling. Our aim is to continue this ethos, offering you ethically-sourced products that represent quality and value.  While Pen is Cornish and Ewan is Scottish, we are both very hands on with running the business. Having said that, it will more usually be Pen who answers your call or packs your order.

The unique Evocative Cornwall calendar showcases the work of local photographers with images you just want to walk in to.  It includes listings of key festivals and events taking place across the county throughout the year, as well as tide tables.  Other gift ideas, for yourself or others, include an Address Book and an Engagement Diary. Our extensive range of cards, including Christmas cards, keeps Cornwall close to the hearts of those who love it.  A smaller, but popular, Cornish Language range is also available and we are thrilled to have our own wrapping paper, designed by Cornish illustrator Megan Johnson.

Made in Cornwall

All our products are entirely made in Cornwall, supporting Cornish business and the Cornish economy.  We are particularly proud to have accreditation under Cornwall Council's 'Made in Cornwall' scheme.

Plastic-Free

The calendar and cards are printed on environmentally sourced, FSC certified paper.  Biodegradable plastic wrappers are still used by some of our retailers, but not on calendars shipped direct to customers - these are now sealed with a small clear tab.  Individual cards and envelopes are sealed with a branded label, and Christmas card packs are wrapped in a cardboard band. We are actively working with our suppliers to close the circle so that all our products are consistent with environmental values. It was wonderful to have this work recognised by the award of Surfers Against Sewage Plastic-Free Champion status in 2020.  Our postal packaging has been entirely plastic-free since 2021.

Kevredna - the Cornish verb 'to share'

We know we are lucky to live in Cornwall and feel privileged to be able to share the beauty around us, which is why we named our trading company Kevredna Limited, after the Cornish verb 'to share'.  It feels right to share 10% of annual profits made with charities based in Cornwall.

Your feedback is important to us, good and bad. If you have any suggestions on how we can improve, we’d love to hear from you.
